87 - PL POTM SBC
Let me start of by saying, unlike the rest of futbin, I'm not in elite or truly anywhere near, but I don't think that this makes this review illegitimate. I used him during fut champs qualification and his impact was immense, their were points where I thought "De Gea will get that", with a player clean through on goal., and to my avail he proves me right every time. For 40k couldn't of asked for more from a goalkeeper, his prescence is felt from the get-go. I've had neuer and WW maignan don the gloves before him and I can't emphasise how much of an upgrade he is. I know people say the goalkeeper doesn't matter but ii will with him in net.
This is my first review on futbin and I just had to after his performances. I qualified btw, with a couple more wins than normal, no doubt thanks to De Gea.
Thanks for reading also.
-Reflexes - 10/10 Just like real life..
-Handling- 9/10 His parrys are always in put into the perfect place but rarely (i know its easy for me to say) i feel they can be caught
-Positioning - 9/10 Consistently solid posiitioning although i feel his diving and reflexes bale him out sometimes
-Diving- 11/10- IMMENSE
-Speed-8/10- quick out of goal but no jorje campos
-Kicking5/10- didn't kick much but 79 should be more than enough
-Will be encouraging people to buy Varane, or do the flashback Varane SBC
This man is mental for me in goal. I actually at first got him for the varane link, so i could play my sule next to him and that made me replace unteadable totgs donnaruma with de gea. In the first 5 games i played with him he made me write my first ever review on futbin. he saved my fut champs matches and made saves with feet my donnaruma wouldnt even think of saveing. i would say he is the best gk in the game except icons and that link to varane is very good too
reflexes
height
saves with feet
maybe the cautios with crosses trait cause i heard its a bad thing this year
Overall a solid keeper and well worth the price. Review is based off of playing him on Basic Chem Style
Diving
Saves pretty much every shot that requires him to dive. I found this to be a real big issue with his base card, but not at all with the POTM card. Clean, reactive diving, so you concede a lot less stupid longshots and the likes.
Reflexes
Reflexes are good overall, he concedes a lot less silly, near-post shots or weak tap ins than most keepers but he definitely has a serious weakness- in 1v1 situations when you call him to rush out and smother a player Peter Schmeichel style, he rarely gets to it.
Having used Numbers Up Ter Stegen and IF Alban Lafont extensively before, this feels like a big step down since they almost always saved shots in these types of situations.
I'd advise not rushing him out as much as other keepers despite his speed, and just rely on his diving or reflex saves from more of a distance.
Positioning
I've found his positioning to be good, overall. usually in the right position at the right time and never found him to make positioning errors. Not quite as perfect positioning as Alisson or Ter Stegen, but good nonetheless
Speed
Feels very fast in game. 64 Acceleration on Basic is quick, but he feels a lot faster than that. Combined with Saves with Feet trait this is a real win
Handling
Handling isn't great but not terrible either. I've never conceded because of a handling error, but he does still push the ball back in tor play, or out for a corner a lot when other keepers would catch it cleanly. However, I've found a lot of keepers do this even with 99 diving on a Chem Style Boost, so its certainly not a dealbreaker
Kicking
Kicking feels a lot better than expected. I though it'd feel terrible but its perfectly usable. Again he doesn't have the exceptional distribution of Neuer or Ter Stegen or Ederson, but it's certainly not a problem either. With a Chem Style like Wall or Shield it'd probably be as good as anyone
Other
6ft4, Saves with Feet Trait and his agility when making saves are a massive plus.
Overall
Overall, a very good solid keeper at a very good price; makes far more saves than most and used correctly can be the difference in a tight game.
Top Notch Diving
Good agility and reflexes to save low shots- something far higher rated keepers like TOTY Donnarumma struggle with
Good positioning
Height
Saves with Feet Trait
Sometimes lapse in 1v1 situations
Handling could be better, though it's not a deal breaker
For around 40k currently, I can't say this card isn't worth it. De Gea, for me, has produced quite a few game winning saves when called upon and in comparison to the other goalkeeping options in the league, I would say that he is worth it for the price. In 1 on 1 situations I was less worried than usual with other goalkeepers. Not the fastest to come off his line, but pretty sufficient to get the job done to pair with great reflexes capable of stopping a lot of short range efforts. Unfortunately, against players with really high shot power and distance shooting capabilities, David De Gea hangs up the boots and calls it a day. I don't know what it is, but he just isn't physically capable of stopping long shots and power shots for me, no matter the chem style. This could be due to positioning, sketchy gameplay or the card in general. In possession, he feels just like any other goalkeeper really. Short passing, long passing, and general distribution is on par with the rest but nothing to be excited over. When it came to chemistry styles, the only one I could consistently maintain success with was Basic. Overall, I would recommend this card for the price and at worst you can SBC fodder him later if you decide he's not up to the task.
Reflexes
1 on 1 goalkeeping
Speed
Corners
Long shots
Near post positioning
Gonna keep this simple, you should do his sbc. Just do it
His card is the best shot stopper in the game, thanks to the 'save with feet' trait
Only thing I'm not a fan of is his kicking outside of goal kicks, but that rarely happens so it isn't an issue
If you want to see some saves, I have a short vid on my YouTube or Tiktok. Both are called BashZeal :)
Everything you'd expect a GK to do, he does that and more
Kicking / Passing outside of goalkicks
